Just Some Information

Did You Know?

That several pounds of soil can accumulate in the fibers of your carpets and rugs? Even weekly vacuuming can't prevent this! Rug cleaning frequency depends on the amount of traffic on the rug. Pets, children, and food on the rug and the rug’s location in your home hasten its soiling. Many of our customers clean in the spring and fall, and many others just once a year.

Q. Can you clean rugs in the home?

NO, IT’S NOT. Here is why. Rugs cleaned on-location are rarely dusted thoroughly, which means pounds of soil in especially wool rugs, become “soapy mud” in the foundation fibers when the water and solutions hit the fibers. This embedded soil can cause dry rot in the cotton foundation over time, which is not correctible.

Rugs cleaned on-location are also rarely rinsed thoroughly because of the fear of getting the floor wet, and also having the dry time of the rug take too long. This means a sizable amount of chemical residue is left in the fibers, and if it is on the alkaline side, this will lead to dye damage to the rug.

Cleaning wool rugs in the home is not cleaning them, it’s damaging them.

How Is My Rug Cleaned?

Oriental & Area Rug Protection

The best way to keep your rugs looking great for the longest life possible. Protective coatings wear off over time from cleanings and normal use of your rugs. Our rug protection is like none other. Your investment will be protected from abrasion, stains, and dry soiling.

Why Should You Use Rug Protector

1. Reduces permanent stains. Protector will allow you to remove spots and spills more effectively, therefore helping you to avoid permanent staining.

2. Save money by increasing life of your rug with less professional cleanings.

3. Your rug will look better and last longer when it is protected.

Cleaners Make When Applying Protector

1. Not using high quality protector. Discount protectors are not as effective and sometimes void the rug warranty.

2. Not using a dedicated container. Using the same container for rug protector as other cleaners can contaminate the rug protector making it gummy and ineffective.

3. Not applying the product properly. Some cleaners either under apply or over apply the protector.

Rug Services We Offer

Rug Serging

Serging is the process of sewing yarn to the edges of rug or carpet in order to make it an area rug. Serging is most commonly found in Oriental Style Rugs. There are literally thousands of yarn colors to choose from, but we usually match colors that are already in the rug or carpet unless the customer wants a specific color. Serging has one big advantage over Binding. If a strand of serged yarn is ever broken you can fix it by wrapping that yarn over the edge and glueing it back in place.

Color Restoration

Curabitur sed iaculis dolor, non congue ligula. Maecenas imperdiet ante eget hendrerit posuere. Nunc urna libero.

Rug Binding

Binding can treat the edges of custom rugs/carpets with several attractive options, one of them is binding. Binding comes in hundreds of colors to match the rug or carpeting. They are pressure-dyed to resist fading, and are stain-resistant. Binding not only enhances the beauty of the rug or carpet but will eliminate frayed edges thereby extending the life of your carpet. The standard binding used to match carpeting is typically a 7/8 inch wide synthetic tape.

Fringe Replacement

When the fringe on your rug becomes weak from age, worn from normal use, or discolored due to accident, we can replace it with a strong and bright new sewn-on fringe. Applying a pre-manufactured fringe allows for a significant cost saving over fringe woven by hand, and is appropriate for use on all machine-made rugs and many hand-knotted rugs. A rug fringe will typically last between three and fifteen years depending on use and what was done to the rug during manufacturing.

What is the Difference Between Binding and Serging an Area Rug?

When it comes to rug repairs for oriental or area rugs the most popular repairs we encounter, in the Chicagoland Area is binding and serging of area rugs. While both of these services are repairs to the edges of area rugs, there are a couple of differences between the two. Knowing these differences will give you peace of mind that you know what is being done to your area rug as well as knowing that you are getting the proper service to repair your area rug. Below are the differences between these two rug repair services.

Rug Binding

When an area rug is worn out around the edges, you will need to have your rug go through a binding repair. Standard binding is folded over the edge of a rug and then stitched on with a binding machine. These machines are similar to a commercial sewing machine and it makes sure that the bind lasts for years to come. Bindings give rugs a tailored and classic look that exudes elegance. When finished, the width of the bind is about one fourth to three-eighths inch with the color being as close to the rug color as possible. This makes it so the repair does not stand out from the rest of the rug.

Rug Serging

With serging, a serged edge is a continuous wrap of yarn that wraps around the edge of the rug, with a finished width of about three-eighths. Serging is a quick and easy way to finish rugs as it goes on quickly and can hide imperfections or an uneven edge. If you are looking for a quick fix then we suggest you choose our serging services, but if you want a finer look then go with binding.

If you are interested in either serging or binding your rug, please contact us at any time with your request.

Other Rug Services

100% Pet Odor Removal

Most commonly used to treat strong odors related to animals. If your rug has an odor from pet urine, waste, or body oils, we strongly recommend our enzyme treatment. The rug is immersed into a tub filled with our enzyme solution and left to soak allowing the treatment to break down the waste and odor. After soaking for the appropriate amount of time, the rug is then given a complete wash.

We wrap all rugs in high quality Tyvek paper. It does not tear easily like standard brown Kraft paper and is moisture resistant yet still allows the rug to breathe unlike plastic. Wrapping in plastic can lead to musty odors and even mildew.

Give us a call or email if you have any more questions or would like pricing information.

Moths are a wool rugs worst nightmare. They feast off the keratin in the wool of your rug, and once they start, they will not stop until your rug is completely ruined. If a moth infested rug is brought to our plant, we use a three step process to treat it. First, the rug will be washed and cleaned of any moth larvae. The rug will then make its way to our freezer (which hits below -15 degrees) as it is the only way to completely kill any moth eggs left behind from the wash. After inspection, a wool fiber protector is applied to the rug to repel against future moth activity. If you would like to know more about moths.

We have performed rug appraisals for clients who want the information for insurance purposes, tax planning, estate planning, probate, asset management, property acquisition, collateral loan agreements, charitable contributions, and gift tax documenting, and our appraisals are some of the most accurate and comprehensive reports available.
